ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CLASSROOM SPONSOR

OVERVIEW

A commitment at this level allows you to follow a class from kindergarten through grade 5, the elementary years, where 16 youngsters will form the basics for an educational lifetime.

The hope is that you can, if possible, renew your gift each year for 6 years as the class travels through the elementary school grades and you can watch the children grow and learn.

Your donation will help pay the teacher’s salary which is the largest classroom cost, but supports the person who is most influential for the students.

IMPACT ON CHILDREN’S LIVES

Each classroom has a maximum of 16 children and most start out together in their kindergarten cohort and stay together throughout. They speak fondly of those formative years and the impact it had on their core beliefs about school and character. On average, 94% or more of CCS students graduate from high school on time (the average in Waterbury is now about 70%).

Whether they pursue further education, technical training, or join the job force, they ultimately become positive members of the community. Current alumni are social workers, police detectives, firemen, bank tellers and parents of CCS students!

MENTORING PROGRAM SPONSOR

OVERVIEW

School mentoring programs increase the positive relationships students have in their lives, by boosting factors that can lead to educational success, such as connectedness to the school and peers; improved relationships with teachers, staff and other adults; confidence; and use of other supports such as tutoring, counseling, and educational planning.

Our adult mentors are paired with one or two students with whom they will be paired throughout the school year. They meet once a week after school and enjoy a snack, have conversation time, play games, and assist with homework if needed.

A mentor’s primary role is to be a caring adult for the child and these pairs often form strong bonds that can last for years after the student has moved on from CCS.

TECHNOLOGY SPONSOR

OVERVIEW

The modern classroom is now dependent on tools that were introduced only a few years ago. At CCS, every student (including pre-K) is assigned either a Chromebook or iPad. Each classroom has a SmartBoard and every administrator works with a desktop or laptop computer. It is conceivable that 175 devices could be in use at the same time so the infrastructure to support this volume needs to be strong with steady support available during operating hours.

Access to technology and the skills to use it are critical to students pursuing their education and
those going into the workforce. These children from low-income households need at least the
same basic tools as their well-off peers to compete in the future.

PROGRAM COSTS

  • Internet Access with Comcast at 300 Mbps speed
  • Monthly fee to Brayton Associates for maintenance and phone support
  • Equipment needed for infrastructure like modem, wi-fi boosters and cabling throughout the building
  • Indirect costs associated with service coordination and electrical power

SPONSOR BENEFITS

As a Technology Sponsor, you/your company will be recognized in the following ways:

  • Tour to see technology in use by students and staff
  • Benefits for gifts of $1,000 or more as outlined for Better Futures Society Members (e.g., exclusive invitations to school events, student artwork, school marketing materials)
